Rameumptom Ruminations: 010: The Ancient Origin of Mother in Heaven

In many cultures outside of the Abrahamic traditions, there are masculine and feminine representations of deity. Joseph Smith taught on a few occasions, that we have a mother in heaven. Why can’t modern prophets talk about her? If the modern church has nothing to say about her, can we find anything about her in the ancient near east? When we place the bible in its context and in its place in time there is clear evidence of a mother in heaven. Listen in on this episode for some insight on ancient beliefs on the feminine divine.

Father Huntington lost his wife under the most trying circumstances. Her children were left desolate. One Day, when her daughter Zina was speaking with the prophet Joseph Smith concerning the loss of her mother and her intense grief, she asked the question.
“Will I know my mother as my mother when I get over on the other side?”
“Certainly you will,” was the instant reply of the prophet. “More than that, you will meet and become acquainted with your eternal mother the wife of your father in heaven.”
“And have I then a mother in heaven?” exclaimed the astonished girl.”
“You assuredly have. How could a father claim his title unless there were also a mother to share that parenthood?”

  1. This was an awesome episode, I don’t recall going into such detail regarding our powerful mother in heaven of which I now feel intimidated by as a man.

Women as of late culturally are beginning to feel like they have the upper hand.

  2. Hi Scott, great podcast so far. It is the sort of approach and content that I am looking for. Keep up the good work!
