Rameumptom Ruminations: 016: Is it the Same Yesterday Today and Forever?

Inherent to the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is an understanding that all the beliefs and practices of the church existed in antiquity. This conclusion does not stand up to scrutiny. In this episode, Scott examines the constantly changing doctrines not only of Mormonism, but of Christianity and Judaism too. Instead of viewing religion as a set of standardized dogma, Scott redefines Religion as a conversation between religious leaders that spans all of recorded history. Each new leader adding their opinion and views to the catalog of scripture permanently altering the discourse.

  1. I feel a bit sick from having testified in our mission that our church was better than the Catholic church because we haven’t altered the saving ordinances. At least not the one of baptisms.

Now, I definitely don’t feel like we have a superior religion, it’s all nonsense anyways. Then again, I have been listening to a lot of Jordan Peterson and there is something to be said about the wisdom that religious traditions have to offer… least we throw out the baby with the bathwater.
