She Became Visible: 004: Teryl Hoffman

Play

Teryl was an athletic and energetic young woman. Her childhood was filled with kindness and service. She had biological siblings and children that were brought into the home under various situations. She played volleyball and was active in track all through high school and college. She loved the outdoors until she was exposed to meningitis. Because of the treatment she received, she was paralyzed on one side of her body. She worked hard through physical therapy until she was able to walk with crutches. That led her to work with others in rehabilitation and physical therapy. One day while working with an older patient, she was thrown and her skull was disconnected from her spinal cord. In spite of her now complete dependence on a wheelchair and a divorce, she adopted a baby girl with a life threatening disease, lethal osteogenesis imperfecta or brittle bone disease. This severe diagnosis was diagnosed before her birth but Teryl loved her and knew she was meant to be her daughter. Her daughter has changed her life and the lives of all that come in contact with this dynamic duo. Listen to Teryl’s amazing story but warning, grab a tissue!
