Radio Free Mormon: 244: The Dan Lafferty Interview

In July of 2000, on the sixteenth anniversary of the double-murders of Brenda and Erica Lafferty, Utah radio host Tom Barberi arranged an interview with Dan Lafferty who was, and continues to be, serving a life-sentence in prison.

Dan Lafferty relates in horrific detail the events leading up to the murders, as well as the murders themselves.

*TRIGGER WARNING*–Due to the graphic nature of the events covered in the interview, this podcast is not suitable for all audiences.

  1. Thank you and your source for sharing this interview. The lack of remorse and self reflection is pretty horrifying. If Dan Lafferty was ever released, it’s pretty clear that he would murder again if he ever felt prompted to do it by “God”.

  2. You continue to bring the best insights into LDS world, RFM.
Tom Barberi was a fixture on the radio for decades, and he died not long ago. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/saltlaketribune/name/thomas-barberi-obituary?id=32024068

He famously called Utah County “The Compound,” and he skewered the uber conservative Eagle Forum “The Magpie Forum,” which I considered to be an insult to the magpies, but whatever. This interview shows the serious side of him, and I’m glad someone thought to record it–and to send it to you.

  3. Very interesting, is it weird that I feel a certain amount of empathy for this man?

I think the only way you can live with yourself is by justifying your actions, but he should show more remorse for his past actions, although what good does that do to you if you already serving a life sentence no matter what.
