Almost Awakened: 113: Deconstructing Religion

We sit down with Mike Bahr who deconstructed his religious system later in life. We discuss what all is involved in deconstruction. The letting go of beliefs, the re-evaluating the existence of God, and the loss of community. But we also talk about how for most this feels like growth and involves feeling happier and more content with life.

  1. Listening to two men talk about abortion without using the word “woman” at the beginning of the discussion made me want to throw up. Equivocating abortion and birth control (minute 18) was disturbing. Good on you for connecting free agency with abortion: if you don’t want one, don’t get one, but abortion in various forms has been around since the beginning of time. Strange that the mens’ responsibility doesn’t enter that part of the conversation. The gap between individual choices and broad social issues remains whether abortion is legal or not.

    1. Deb, thank you for pointing out to me, in no way did I have any intent to offend. I’m still learning and progressing and working hard to understand these sometimes complex issues after having such long held beliefs. I’ll have to go back and listen to our discussion.

      Mike
