35 years ago I started having spiritual experiences outside my Mormon life. Life just took me away from the totality of Mormonism. It has been very freeing and wonderful.
However, the information I learned as I searched unfolded a much bigger picture of God. I did feel sadness for what I had missed as a Mormon.
I found out I had never ever really thought for myself.
I had spent all my life lining up with Mormon thought and action so I would be worthy to live with God again.
I had never been my own person. I married very young…raised an enormous family ,very slow to create personal self care automatically….obviously programmed from my youth.
It took me many many years to sort everything out. I am still learning and growing.
I too am very glad John Dehlin and Mormon Stories was there for me in the early years. I felt validated through others’ experiences. Very meaningful.
I also followed your journey, Bill, from the very beginning. You asked so many of the questions I had. That was such a great support.
Today, I find every human’s life journey as valuable and perfect. If life were without challenge, life would have so much less meaning.
My journey just happened to be a Mormon. My husband’ s journey included a Catholic upbringing ,an abusive childhood,conversion to Mormonism in late 30’s,and finally going directly to God in his 50’s.
Without all of these experiences challenging us….life’s meaning and appreciation would be so much less.
