Mormon Awakenings: Episode 020: The Second Half Is Way Better

Jack Naneek discusses the second half of life.  It’s as different from the first half as day is to night. Piano lesson are mentioned, and teaching those in the first half of life is discussed.  In the end, we realize our institutions are stuck in the first half of life because they’re supposed to be stuck in the first half of life. How else would the second half of life be the second half of life?

  1. The Greeks called it the Trivium: Grammar, Dialectic and Rhetoric. The Grammar phase provides the framework for all other understanding that follows. The Dialectic is debating seemingly opposing ideas, questioning and challenging. The Rhetoric is the synthesis of all truth and the ability to express it persuasively and eloquently.

    We tend to think of the Trivium as being purely academic, and that’s certainly its most common application, but it applies to every area of human understanding–social, spiritual, theological and emotional as well.
