Masterfully stated. Thanks!!
The Greeks called it the Trivium: Grammar, Dialectic and Rhetoric. The Grammar phase provides the framework for all other understanding that follows. The Dialectic is debating seemingly opposing ideas, questioning and challenging. The Rhetoric is the synthesis of all truth and the ability to express it persuasively and eloquently.
Dorothy Sayers does an excellent job of explaining: http://www.gbt.org/text/sayers.html
We tend to think of the Trivium as being purely academic, and that’s certainly its most common application, but it applies to every area of human understanding–social, spiritual, theological and emotional as well.
Thoughtful perspective, puts a few things into clearer perspective.
